What’s New : 2000

23 December 2000

There we were Friday night in the AMC Skyline house number 1 watching Cast Away when about 42 minutes into the feature... PAK! The power went out in the theater and, as it turned out, the entire Skyline Mall. It is a little reassuring to know that the emergency lights and EXIT signs were operational. Eventually the staff gave each of us a customer service pass valid for special engagements, and I drove south to the AMC Potomac Mills.

16 December 2000

The holiday message is going gold and I’m listening to comedy on C-SPAN radio! (The Ninth Annual Washington Celebrity Comedy Contest.)

09 December 2000

Ha! Fooled you! There is nothing new! I have been working on my holiday message for 2000.

12 November 2000

I added a few boring lines of text as a header to the top of most pages to ease navigation.

05 November 2000

My member page at LUGNET states that I will eventually build a tow truck worthy of the Supercars. I did not expect to be working on it so soon. I am especially pleased with the mass and proportions of the articulated arm. Yes, it will lift and pull one of the Supercars although, with their ridiculous ground clearance of about a brick’s height’s worth, I do have to lift the Supercar up onto the arm. I may have seen a movie or two in the meantime, and something has vanished from the garage. My attempt to drive through October on a single tank of gasoline resulted in just about the biggest refill in the car’s 12 year history, over 15 gallons, which means I had less than a gallon left.

24 October 2000

Five photographs from the Richmond cookout are finally scanned and available from the Photographs menu.

08 October 2000

I have been letting the updates accumulate before uploading. I am working on a project to automate the production of mailing labels and cards for the Rolodex file through the combination of a Paradox table and multiple merge files in WordPerfect. The knowledge I have gained over the past 2 years regarding address structure and permissible elements is contributing positively to the project.

30 September 2000

The combination of a free pass and a current Renée Zellweger movie came together Wednesday. I’ve added a link and menu for photographs and currently have three images of Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department cruisers to illustrate my comments on The Exorcist. It is entirely possible that a new question or two could show up in the FAQ page without my mentioning it here.

26 September 2000

Just a few small changes here and there. (I watched the laserdisc of Clay Pigeons over the weekend.) I’m mostly done with the My Sets feature I mentioned below, but check quickly, I may remove some or all of the listing from "public" view. By the way, the email address on the welcome page and at my LUGNET page is for real.

22 September 2000

A potential correspondent is looking to build his fledgling collection of DVD titles, so I have made a list over in the garage of the titles that duplicate those in my laserdisc collection, along with some commentary as to the likelihood of my parting with any particular title. I have been experimenting with the "My Sets" feature over at LUGNET. I’m not done yet, but check me out anyway.

16 September 2000

You were thinking maybe I went to see Academy Award winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow in Duets? Give me some credit! I have seen the trailer! So I gave this a try. I investigated the availability of the laserdisc releases of the last year and ordered a few. I haven’t watched them yet, but I have a few words about one of them.

08 September 2000

If only Bring It On had been playing an hour earlier, I might have been spared this. There is a new question at the FAQ page. By the way, I do not announce changes to the HTML coding of these pages. Only the curious with their fingers poised over Control+U will discover those.

05 September 2000

I add a link and page for Frequently Asked Questions. Some correspondents questioned the continued validity of my I do not have much to say, and I will take my time to say it statement on the home page in view of the proliferating pages and frequent updates, so I removed it. I was tempted to replace it with TRUST NO ONE. I created another table for the excess videocassettes and laserdiscs in stock.

04 September 2000

I make a correction in referring to a movie title. I add a link and page for Accessions in response to a correspondent’s request. Philosophy will have to wait. The Paradox 9 component of WordPerfect Office 2000 makes it easy to create a table from my databases. I take the opportunity to create a guide to the duplicates of Matchbox miniatures I make available as part of the stuff which has found its way to the garage.

02 September 2000

My employer let us out 2 hours early on Friday so I was able to see a couple of movies. My project to obtain the LEGO® Star Wars® sets at 50% off took another step forward with the 7180 B-Wing set. I add a What’s New link and page. There is now a site map in case I ever develop a frames version of the web space. In response to another correspondent, I have added more relations between movies.

27 August 2000

I add a Movies link and page in response to a correspondent’s request.

19 August 2000

I succeed in downloading CuteFTP and use it to delete the extra index.htm file and the superfluous folder constantine.hannaher and its second copy of the index.htm file from my web space. Excellent!

13 August 2000

I eventually grasp that there is a difference between the index.htm file I have been frantically publishing to the web space without result and the index.html file I must overwrite for browsers to find.
